As we eagerly await Dr. Rajiv Shah’s major development address to over 200 non-governmental organizations, think-tanks, academics, and international development leaders later this afternoon, we wanted to highlight USAID’s new 50th anniversary website that launched today.
The interactive site says, “The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was born out of a spirit of progress, innovation and a reflection of American’s values, character and a fundamental belief in doing the right thing. President John F. Kennedy recognized the need to unite development into a single agency to maximize expertise. In 1961, USAID was created. Since that time, USAID has been a quiet force for progress, fostering a more peaceful and secure world.”
There are a variety of infographics that help illustrate the global impact of USAID’s work around the world as well as photo galleries and stories “about the game-changing solutions that are saving lives and creating opportunities.” In the coming weeks, USAID will premiere the first in a video series on major development themes and in March they plan to launch a socially curated exhibit which will allow participants to take a virtual tour of development. The 50th anniversary website also encourages you to share your development experience in words, photos, video or audio via the website.
