Today, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) kicked off its 50th Anniversary Forum with the Your Better Life Index. This new, interactive index will help individuals compare well-being and progress across 34 countries by measuring things like income, community, education, health, and safety.
This week, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will gather for its 50th Anniversary Forum in Paris. The OCED, established in 1961, is made up of 34 member countries who aim to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. MFAN Partner Sarah Jane Staats, director of policy outreach at the Center for Global Development, wrote a great piece yesterday celebrating the launch of the new Congressional Caucus for Effective Foreign Assistance. In his book, Barcott writes, “The thought of my father prompted something more profound: At the core of our philosophy was the conviction that some of the poor have the solutions to the problems they faced. I am impressed with the broad, bipartisan support for our civilian-led agencies, particularly since 9-11 and how support for these programs has grown. Starting in the Bush Administration and continuing in the Obama Administration, the International Affairs Budget has been designated as national security spending. Even the recent bipartisan debt commissions agreed International Affairs is part of national security spending. Unfortunately, recent Congressional legislation breaks this bipartisan tradition, divorcing these vital programs from the rest of our security spending.
